I love bow blouses. Now they are everywhere: it's easy to find them in stores and there are different patterns proposed by indie designers . But when my love for bow shirts began, it was hard to find them in shops and I didn't know sewing. It was just then that I realized it was time to learn to sew and make it by myself. Then I stopped working in office, so bow shirts passed into background. But when I found the pattern of this blouse, I didn't hesitate a moment and I immediately put it into my to-do list.
We always want to save money, but maybe this time I exaggerated.
This pattern by Simple Sew was originally attached to issue 2 of the British magazine Love Sewing . But during the last series of Great British Sewing Bee, Love Sewing offered the Lottie Blouse for free on their website, but only for limited time. I launched a #freesewingpatternalert on Instagram and I immediately saved the pdf on my computer. Saving n. 1: use free pattern.
This blouse is really easy to make, perfect for slippery and soft fabrics. It has only 2 bust darts, a drop neck, that is typically hidden from the bow, and 3/4 sleeves.
I chose this fabric from my stash and I realized it was one of those my aunt gave me this winter. I don't know the composition, but I would say that the synthetic component is definitely high (maybe 100%). Unfortunately this is a shame because I really love the print of this fabric. It must be folded for very long time because, despite several machine wash and light use of iron, I couldn't eliminate foldings from the fabric, clearly visible on the back. Saving n. 2: use fabric I had as gift.
I didn't make any alterations to the pattern unless the sleeves. I like the 3/4 length sleeves, but I find them very uncomfortable especially if I have to use the shirt under sweaters or cardigans. So I decided to lengthen the sleeves and make the cuffs, copying them from my pineapples blouse. But this time I decided to gather them, as the top of the sleeve. I needed 2 buttons to close the cuffs. Why not search them between the buttons left me like inheritance from my mother-in-law? And there they were! Saving n. 3: use buttons from my collection.
The pattern is easy to sew and I didn't follow the instructions. But if anyone needs help, I found a sew-along on the Queen of Darts' blog.
The only thing I didn't like this time is the binding around the neckline, I didn't pull it enough. You might know, I don't quite agree with bias. Luckily this little mistake is easy to hide back the bow! Another reason to love bows ;-)

Maybe the fabric makes the blouse looking a little bit cheap, but I think it is perfect to go to the playground with my daughter. And I'm sure that others will follow, perhaps with pretty fabrics.
Do you understand why I exaggereted? This time I saved too much ;-)
