Geometric knit jacket

07 February 2017
When I'm not sewing for some months, I start sewing something quick and easy. After Christmas holidays I decided that my first project of 2017 would be a basic jacket/cardigan to wear every day, of course for me.

I chose the pattern in my magazines library, in Burda magazine of 2011, but it's a very basic pattern, this jacket has essential lines, I could call it "timeless" and perfect even after so many years. I chose the pattern but only after I discovered it was for petite sizes (and I'm not a petite size) but luckily my sizes corresponded to the larger petite size. Obviously I decided to lengthen the bodice about few centimeters, and I lengthened also the sleeves because the pattern includes 7/8 sleeves, which aren't my favorites.
After I wore this jacket a couple of times, I realized that it would be better to choose a smaller size, especially because it drops a little from my shoulders and I don't love it. I used clear elastic to sew the shoulder seam to prevent the seam stretching in use.
The pattern suggests to use a zipper to close the jacket but I preferred to use only two hook eye buttons at the top, simply because I wanted to make this jacket similar to a wool sweater I own, that I love so much and I always wear in the winter. Finally, to finish the jacket, I chose a knit bias tape: it was the first time I used it and honestly I'm not very satisfied how I sewed it, but I'm to lazy to unpick and redo it.
I like this jacket because it's perfect with a pair of black jeans and I like the pattern too because it's very versatile. I need to pay more attention only to choose the right size.
And you? When you stay little time without sewing, do you like to sew something easy or to sew immediately something more complicated?
